Aggression in reciprocal crosses of two subspecies of wild house mouse

چکیده

These two subspecies of house mouse were found to differ in their social behaviour, the former being less aggressive than the latter. The paternal effect on aggression (observed repeatedly in laboratory mice) was not found. However, F2 generation mice were less aggressive than those from the F1 generation, and the maternal effect was also significant in a homogenous test set.

Chromosomal transmission bias in laboratory hybrids between wild strains of the two European subspecies of house mice.

Laboratory crosses between wild strains of the two European house mouse subspecies Mus musculus domesticus (2n = 34) and M. m. musculus (2n = 40) were performed to analyze the selective processes involved in the non-introgression of centromeric regions of Robertsonian (Rb) fusions in the Danish hybrid zone. The chromosomal analysis of 226 backcross progeny from 22 reciprocal crosses showed that...

Evaluation of effectiveness of some mitochondrial genes in biosystematics and phylogeographic studies of house mouse (Mus musculus ) subspecies

The identification of the efficiency of some mtDNA genes of Mus musculus species complex (house mouse) for biosystematics research was studied in this approach. Recent studies have made use of different mitochondrial genes including NADH dehydrogenase genes, cytochrome b gene, cytochrome oxidase genes, D-loop region and whole mtDNA genome to study the house mouse species. Usage of each of these...

Transgressive segregation in a behavioural trait? Explorative strategies in two house mouse subspecies and their hybrids

Hybrid zones between genetically diverged populations are widespread among animals and plants. Their dynamics usually depend on selection against admixture and dispersal of parental forms in the zone. Although indirect estimates of selection have been the target of many studies, dispersal has been neglected. In this study we carried out open field experiments to test whether males of two house ...

Aggression in wild house mice: current state of affairs.

This paper reviews our present state of knowledge of genetic variation in (offensive) aggression in wild house mice. The basic tools in this research were lines bidirectionally selected for attack latency (fast attacking SAL and slow attacking LAL males), descended from a feral population. Using congenic lines for the nonpseudoautosomal region of the Y chromosome (YNPAR), reciprocal crosses bet...

Maternal-foetal genomic conflict and speciation: no evidence for hybrid placental dysplasia in crosses between two house mouse subspecies.

Interspecific hybridization between closely related mammalian species, including various species of the genus Mus, is commonly associated with abnormal growth of the placenta and hybrid foetuses, a phenomenon known as hybrid placental dysplasia (HPD). The role of HPD in speciation is anticipated but still poorly understood. Here, we studied placental and foetal growth in F1 crosses between four...
